05/12/2012 - The Ohio Late Model Series (OLMS) made their second appearence of the season to Sandusky Speedway Saturday night. Setting fast time for the OLMS was John Sandquist Jr. at 17.760.
The Ignitable Technologies Modifieds saw veteran driver Kenny Phillips set the fast time of 17.980. The preliminary races saw T.J. Stineman winning the dash race. The heat races were won by Jason Wells and John White.
The Street Stock division saw Gary Hamilton as the fast qualifier with a time of 20.825. Gary Hamilton also won the dash race. Kevin Jaycox Jr. won the Streert Stock heat race.
Tonights feature races started with the 20 lap Street Stock main. Randy Dawson and Logan Cooper led the field to the green flag. Dawson was the early race leader followed by Justin Hamilton, Kevin Jaycox Jr., Kenny Calhoun and Chris Hamilton. J.Hamilton took the lead on lap four as Jaycox Jr. moved into the second spot. J.Hamilton opened up a four car length lead over Jaycox Jr. as Calhoun and C. Hamilton battled for third on the seventh lap. C. Hamilton was on a tear as he took third and then passed Jaycox Jr. for second on lap eleven. J. Hamilton, the defending Street Stock champion, increased his lead with five laps to go and held off his brother Chris to take the checkered flag.
The Ohio Late Model Series (OLMS) was up next for their thirty lap feature. Ryan Kirkpatrick took the lead ahead of John Sandquist Sr. going into the first turn. As the field settled into a single file running order it was Kirkpatrick followed by Brian Short, John Ambrose, Mike Mazzagatti and Dustin Hayes. Short took command of the lead on lap nine. Short opened up nearly a half straightaway lead over Kirkpatrick by the mid point of the race. The top five was Short, Kirkpatrick, Norm Taylor, John Sandquist Jr. and John Ambrose. With five laps to go the caution flag was out as John Sandquist Jr. broke and was leaking oil. The front row for the double file restart was Short and Taylor. Taylor was over heating and would go to the pit area before the race would restart. The front row was now Short and Kirkpatrick. Disaster struck as the leaders came across the stripe one lap later. The front running cars of Short and Kirkpatrick tangled with both cars retiring to the pit area. Short was able to rejoin the line up. On this restart it was Mazzagatti and Dustin Hayes the front row with Mazzagatti getting the lead on lap twenty five. Mazzagatti would hold on to the lead for the remaining laps to take his first career Late Model checkered flag.
Seventeen Ignitable Technologies Modifieds took the green flag for their thirty lap feature race. Outside pole sitter T.J. Stineman took the lead with John White second. White took the lead on the inside groove of turn two on the third lap.and opened up a comfortable lead. The running order was White, Stephen Klinect, Brad Springer, Craig Phillips and Stineman. The caution was out on lap eight for Joe Shannons spin off turn three. The race was then red flagged for oil on the track. When racing resumed it was White and Klinect the front row with White taking the point. White opened up a five car length lead over Klinect. Whites advantage disappeared when Craig Phillips spun in turn two on lap sixteen. White continued to lead on the restart as Klinect was hounding him for the lead with Kenny Phillips within striking distance in third. Klinect took the lead with five laps to go and held off a very determined John White to take the checkered flag.

The evening was sponsored by Reeds Salvage and saw the Town Money Saver Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) and the new Ohio Late Model Series (OLMS) which is sponsored by Bills Auto open their respective divisons racing season. The MSA would be honoring Viki Rodisel a long time Sandusky Speedway fan and a member of the 4th Turn Crazies. Trent Stephens was the fast qualifier in the MSA with a time of 14.473. Taking the MSA heat race wins were Bobby Dawson and Mike Lichty.

Chris Hamilton was the fast qualifier in the Street Stock division with a time of 20.303. Gary Hamilton won the dash and heat race.
The Ohio Late Model Series (OLMS) which is a brand new series, started the evenings feature races with their thirty lap main. Dustin Hayes led from the pole followed by Ryan Kerpatric, Brian Short, John Sandquist Jr. and John Sandquist Sr. Norm Taylor dropped out of the race on the second lap after making contact with the front straight wall. Hayes would hold on to the lead through lap sixteen when Kerpatric was able to get past the leader. Kerpatric would hold the lead until the closing stages of the race when Brian Short took the point. Short opened up a half straight lead until lap twenty seven when Hayes spun in turn four. Short held off John Sandquist Jr. for the remaining three laps for the win.
The Ignitable Technologies Modifieds were up next for their twenty five lap feature. Following a complete restart it was Jason Wells taking the early lead before Matt Marlowe took the point on lap four. The running order was Marlowe, Wells, John White, Kenny Phillips and Stephen Klinect. Craig Phillips brought out the caution for his spin in turn two. On the restart Marlowe was in control of the lead and opened up a two car length advantage over Wells which he would hold until the checkered flag waved.
The thirty lap MSA feature saw Jack Smith and Jon Henes lead the fifteen car field to the green flag. Smith took the lead as the caution flag waved on lap two when Bobby Dawson spun off of turn three. On the restart Smith pulled away from the rest of the field as Charlie Schultz took the second spot. Schultz took the lead before the caution waved for Jon Henes who spun in turn four on lap four. The running order was Schultz, Smith, Kyle Edwards, Dave Shullick Jr. and Jeff Banyas. On this restart Edwards dove down low to take second as Shullick moved into third. Smith and Moe Lilje rounded out the top five. Bobby Dawson moved into the top five as he got past Smith just before the caution waved when Lilje made contact with the backstraight wall on lap ten, Lilje was not injured. Schultz had a commanding six car length lead over Shullick Jr., Edwards, Trent Stephens and Dawson. Jim Paller spun in turn four on lap thirteen which would be the last caution in the race. On this restart Schultz again pulled away from Shullick Jr. but Shullick Jr. who was the second fastest MSA qualifier here tonight was gaining ground on the leader. With two laps to go Shullick Jr. shot into the lead and his ACME Racing teammate Trent Stephens took over second. When the checkered flag waved it was Dave Shullick Jr. back behind the wheel for the Steve Stout owned ACME Racing team and once again back in the winners circle. This would be a very special win as the Shullick family was celebrating the birthday of Dave Shullick Sr., the man who won the very first Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals and is a five time winner of that prestigious event.
The Street Stock twenty lap feature closed out the evenings racing. Randy Dawson took the lead from the outside pole. It was three wide racing for the lead and Gary Hamillton took the point on lap five. Gary would hold off a strong challenge for the lead from his son Chris Hamilton who was the divisions fast qualifier. Garys other son Justin Hamilton is the defending Street Stock champion and he was running third. G. Hamiltons pace was slowed by several cautions but he would hold on to the lead on each restart and go on to take the checkered flag and make it a clean sweep of the Street Stock divison tonight.
