Previous Weeks Racing Results

(SANDUSKY, OH, June 22nd, 2015)- A car numbered 5 led every lap of the Main Event Racing Series/ARCA Gold Cup Series 100 lap event at Sandusky Speedway on Saturday night.  However, it was by no means an easy win as Jeff Ganus had to do everything in his power to get by the Terry Senneker piloted entry before finally getting by on a restart with just over thirty laps to go.  Kelly Lille slipped by Brandon Short on a restart following a chaotic crash at halfway leading one driver to be transported to the local hospital, which kept Short from sweeping both divisions as Brandon’s father Brian owns the Ganus piloted #5 Main Event Racing Series car.  Rich Clingan (Ohio Stocks) and Logan Cooper (Street Stocks) both dominated their events to claim victory, leading all but one lap in their respective events.

The Milan Automotive Street Stock event was first up for the evening as Gary Toth and Carl Smith led the way to the green flag for the twenty lap affair.  Toth led the way for the first circuit until Cooper took the lead on lap two.  Fortunately for Toth, Mike White would stop on the front straightaway before Cooper could cross the start/finish line to make the pass official, so Toth would be returned to the lead with one lap complete.  This time, Cooper made sure to take the spot on the restart, and would begin to stretch out his lead until Collin Penn spun on the following lap with Cooper leading Toth, White, Penn, and Macy Fox.

White and Penn would get by Toth on lap five to give chase to Cooper’s #16 Track Kings machine.  White in the #51 JPI Collision car tried everything that he could on the outside, but it would be to no avail.  Logan Cooper won over Mike White, and Collin Penn.  Toth, Fox, and Carl Smith would not finish the event but would still be scored fourth through sixth respectively.

The Digital Yalo Ohio Stock twenty lap feature event saw Jeff and Clayton Karl lead the field to the green flag waved by Sandusky Speedway flagman David Kopcho.  Clayton piloted his #21 Erie Coast Customs machine to the lead on the start with Rich Clingan in tow.  Clingan would take the lead in his own #21 car sponsored by T&B Excavation.  Meanwhile, Jerry Karl snuck around the #00 of Joe Borczuch on lap three to take fourth and the #9 of Jeff Karl on lap five to grab third.  Borczuch would pass Karl on the ninth lap to take the fourth position in the United Cleaning Contractors machine.

However, on lap ten, the brothers of Jerry and Clayton Karl got together while racing for the second position, with Jerry going through the backstretch water hole to bring out the first caution of the night.  Clingan led Clayton Karl, Joe Borczuch, Jeff Karl and Julia Buckles to the restart with Jeff Karl passing Borczuch when the green flag flew only for the move to be negated when Jerry Karl went off of turn three with a flat tire.  One more spin on lap ten by the #55 of Rick Funnell would take place before the halfway sign was delivered.

On lap eleven, Julia Buckles grabbed the fourth position from Jeff Karl, who would also be passed two laps later by Jerry Karl to be placed outside of the top five.  Buckles would lose that hard-fought fourth position with five laps to go as Jerry Karl went by on his charge to the front.  Joe Borczuch would also fall to Jerry Karl with two laps to go, but Rich Clingan would not be denied his first feature win of the season as Clayton Karl, Jerry Karl, Joe Borczuch and Julia Buckles rounded out the top five.  Jeff Karl, Bernie Cook, Greg Sharp, and Rick Funnell finished in positions sixth through ninth.

In Melinda! Melinda! Hobby Stock action, Richard Clem and Kyle Finlayson set the pace with Finalyson taking the lead from the outside line on the start.  Brandon Short and his #18 Brian’s Direct Detail/Maximum Elevator car would wrestle the lead from Finlayson in turn four on the first lap.  Meanwhile, points leader Kelly Lille moved up to third on lap three and then cut to the inside line on lap six to take the runnerup position.  The next lap would see polesitter Richard Clem and Midvale regular Korey Herron tangle and both hit the backstretch wall hard coming off of turn two.  Herron would be transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.

Short would power to the lead on the restart but a debris caution would put him back into a side by side situation with Lille.  The ensuing restart would see Lille grab the advantage and power to the win over Short, Wes Ennis and Kyle Finlayson.  Korey Herron and Richard Clem were scored fifth and sixth respectively.

Finally, the stars and cars of the Hoosier Racing Tire Main Event Racing Series and the Royal Truck and Trailer ARCA Gold Cup Series would get on track for their first ever co-sanctioned racing action contested at the Sandusky Speedway.  Former Sandusky modified standout Nick Grodi in the #40 Off-Shore Performance machine would duel with three time Main Event winner Terry Senneker from the front row for the one hundred lap grind, with Senneker grabbing the lead from the outside line.  Alex Rosenberry would also start working his way towards the front, as he passed two time Main Event Racing Series points champion Bud Perry on lap five for the third position.  Soon, the #5 Brian’s Direct Detail/Hutter Racing Engines/Bicknell Racing Products late model driven by Main Event XXV winner Jeff Ganus would start moving forward from the eighth starting position as he cracked the top five on lap twenty-five and passed Perry on lap twenty-nine for fourth.

Ganus would continue his ascent through the running order on lap forty-three as he passed Alex Rosenberry for third and then nipped Nick Grodi for the second position on lap forty-five.  Rosenberry would follow Ganus through in order to take third back, and then, the race’s first caution occurred as the defending Main Event Racing Series champion Harold Fair Jr. in the Royal Truck and Trailer #71 spun in turn two.  The restart would see Senneker alongside Ganus, Rosenberry next to Grodi, Bud Perry alongside Mike Mazzagatti, Dennis Strickland next to Scott Pemberton, with John Sandquist Jr. and Fair filling out the top ten.

Senneker would hold on to the lead on the restart with Mazzagatti taking fifth from Perry.  Then came the race changing moment as Bud Perry spins in turn two in his own oil.  Senneker would again have to hold off Ganus, Rosenberry, Grodi and Mazzagatti, but he failed to do so as Ganus took the lead on the restart.  Mazzagatti would also nip Grodi who seemed to struggled on the outside line.

By lap eighty, Ganus had stretched out a full straightaway lead on early race leader Terry Senneker.  The race would again change as Senneker went pitside with just over ten laps to go, relinquishing the runnerup position to Alex Rosenberry.  Fair would make a hard charge to fourth with four laps to go, but Ganus would hold on for the huge victory over Rosenberry, Mazzagatti, Fair, and Grodi.  Scott Pemberton, Dennis Strickland, John Sandquist Jr., and John Flynn would round out the finishing order.

The speedway will be in action this Saturday, June 27th, with the four weekly racing divisions: the modifieds, Ohio Stocks, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks.  For more developing information, visit or like us on Facebook by searching ‘Sandusky Speedway’!
