 BANQUET OF CHAMPIONS 2009 !!

The 2009 Sandusky Speedway track champions were honored at the Sandusky Speedway Banquet of Champions that was held on Sat. Jan. 30, 2010 at the Westlake Holiday Inn. Kevin Jaycox, the owner of Sandusky Speedway, was the master of ceremonies and Doug Dock handled the interviews. Before the awards were presented, a moment of silence was given for the members of the racing community that have recently passed away. Steve Parrish Jr., Marion Brooks, Lylle Witherell, Debra Ballard and former Sandusky Speedway track employees Tammy Speir and Al Kucha were all remembered.
 
The special guests for the evening were Terry Pitzer from the Superior Beverage Group, Craig & Dee Reed from Reed's Salvage, Scott Bartlome from Bartlome Electric and Aaron Ortner from the Liberty Tax Service. The drivers that finished in tenth and ninth positions in all divisions were called to the stage first to receive their trophies. Darius Randall and Dave Wallencheck (Spectator Stock); Mike Guiher and Kyle Watson (Street Stock); Randy Whitmer and Jerrod Karl (Sportsman); Stan Czworkowski and Kenny Sharp (Modified); Bryant Maus and Mike McVetta (Buckeye Super Sprints); Dave Saxor and Mike McVetta (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
The awards would now be presented, up first was The 2009 Hard Luck Award. The winners of this award were : Tony Burns (Spectator Stock); there was a tie in the Street Stock division between Stephan Schlea and Gary Perram; Rich Clingan (Sportsman); Jim Blagg (Modified); Frank Neill (Buckeye Super Sprints) and Mike McVetta (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series). 
 
Drivers finishing in the eighth and seventh positions were Justin Cranmore and Mike White (Spectator Stock); Dylan Napier and Mark Resor (Street Stock); Rollie Alvers and Kenny Sharp (Sportsman); Bill Burba and Jim Martin (Modified); Frank Neill and Tim Ensign (Buckeye Super Sprints); Danny Brown and Joey Wyckoff (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
The 2009 Rookie Of The Year Award winners were : Cody Rose and Tony Burns (Spectator Stock); Eugene Rothacker (Street Stock); Jerrod Karl (Sportsman); Kenny Sharp (Modified); Joey Wyckoff (Buckeye Super Sprint); and Tom Kunz (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
Drivers finishing in the sixth and fifth positions were Cory Rothacker and Tony Burns (Spectator Stock); Eugene Rothacker and Justin Hamilton (Street Stock); Rich Clingan and Tom Clingan (Sportsman); Jim Blagg and Andy Carroll (Modified); Mike Sheppard and Talon Stephens (Buckeye Super Sprints); Tom Kunz and Todd Buchanan (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).  
 
The 2009 Best Appearing Car Award winners were : Mike White (Spectator Stock); Clayton Karl (Street Stock); Mike Sims (Sportsman); Ali Kern (Modified); Todd Buchanan (Buckeye Super Sprint); Joey Wyckoff (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
The drivers in the remaining positions fourth through second were ; Cody Rose, Devin Gibson, Julia Buckles (Spectator Stock); Gary Perram, Kenny Calhoun, Stephan Schlea (Street Stock); Greg Sharp, Randy Dawson, Roger Briere (Sportsman); Nick Grodi, Ali Kern, Dave Dobbins (Modified); Todd Buchanan, Joey Wyckoff, Brian Buchanan (Buckeye Super Sprints); Tyler Dunn, Talon Stephens, Ryan Gillenwater (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
The 2009 Rising Star Award winners were : Kevin Jaycox Jr. (Spectator Stock); Justin Hamilton (Street Stock); Roger Briere (Sportsman); Ali Kern and Stan Czworkowski (Modified);  Mike Sheppard (Buckeye Super Sprints); Joey Wyckoff (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
The 2009 Owner Of The Year Award winners were : Tom Diehl and Raymond Poe (Spectator Stock); Jeff Karl (Street Stock); Greg Sharp (Sportsman); Jeff Carroll (Modified); Duane Lakner (Buckeye Super Sprints); Jon Komerak (The Buckeye Super Sprint Series).
 
The 2009 True Rookie Of The Year Award winner was twelve year old Brandon Buckley who competes in the Spectator Stock division.
 
The 2009 Crew Of The Year Award winner was Niedzwiecki Racing.
 
The 2009 Mike Combs Sportsman Of The Year Award winner was Todd Buchanan.
 
The 2009 Sandusky Speedway Achievement Award winner was Bobby Hayduk.
 
It was now time to recognize the 2009 Sandusky Speedway champions starting with Jeff Maran in the Enduro class. Jeff competed in and won every Enduro Race. Kevin Jaycox Jr. won seven feature races in the Spectator Stock division along with three fast qualifier times, three Dash wins, five Heat Race wins and fifteen top five finishes and is the second youngest Sandusky Speedway champion at fourteen years old. In the Street Stock division Clayton Karl won seven feature races, was fast qualifier five times, had four Dash wins, five Heat Race wins and sixteen top five finishes. Mike Sims is a two time Sportsman champion along with being a four time Pure Stock champion. Sims also holds the track record in the Sportsman division. Sims had eight feature wins, was fast qualifier fourteen times, had one Dash and two Heat Race wins along with ten top five finishes. In the Modified divison Kenny Phillips made it three straight championships. This twenty three year veteran driver had two feature wins, one fast qualifying time, two Dash wins, four Heat Race wins, and five top five finishes. Scott Hart has now made it two Buckeye Super Sprint championships in a row. Hart had one feature win for the season and was the fastest qualifier three times. Hart had one Dash win, four Heat Race wins and was a top five finisher five times. In The Buckeys Super Sprint Series Zach Gibson won his second championship in a row. Gibson won five feature races and was fast qualifier four times. Gibson also had five Heat Race wins and had four top five finishes. Gibson will be moving into a Supermodified and compete with the Midwest Supermodified Association for the 2010 season.
 
Sandusky Speedway is celebrating it's Diamond Anniversary this year, providing continuous racing for sixty years starting back in 1950. Coming up Feb. 26, 27, 28 Sandusky Speedway presents "Speed Weekend" at the Sandusky Mall. Come out and see the cars and stars of Sandusky Speedway during Mall hours. There will be two practice sessions at Sandusky Speedway Sat. April 3 (rain date Sun. April 4) and Sat. April 10 (rain date Sun. April 11). The 2010 season begins on Sat. April 17 with the Milan Automotive Season Opener which will also be a Fan Appreciation Night.The general admisson will be $1, $1for 7 Up products, $1 beer and $1 hot dogs.
